BLP Girls Kayla Narendratanaya, on discovering new style

Hi, Kayla! Do you still wear makeup at home, and why?

Only when I need a little pick-me-up to go through the rest of my day! Actually I use my time at home as a chance to give my skin a break, something that I can't do while working from the office.

On what occasions do you wear makeup at home?

I have those days when I wake up and I don't really feel good. This is when the power of makeup comes into play. Other than that, I always wear makeup whenever I have Zoom meetings scheduled. On a daily basis, I am running my own brand and I wear makeup whenever there are at-home photoshoots for my brand.

Is there any adjustment in your beauty routine in times like these?

To my surprise, I found that I am in need of a concealer more than ever. I don't usually need it but I notice that my under eyes got darker. Maybe it's because of my working hours that become more uncertain, as sometimes I work until late at night. It's Face Concealer to the rescue!

What are the makeup products that you usually wear at home?

Other than concealer, I wear eyebrow gel, eyeliner using my favorite Matte Liner, mascara and highlighter for inner eye corner. Not to forget, lipstick! I wear the same color for my cheeks and lips.

Do you have any at-home makeup tips for other BLP Girls to try?

Experiment many makeup styles and take a lot of pictures! I am now keen on trying out different looks, like longer cat eyes or even wearing colorful eyeliners. If it turns out not as I'd expected, at least there's only me to see!

BLP Team Fitria Latifanisa, on pressing start button

Hi, Fitria! Do you still wear makeup at home, and why?

I only wear makeup at home on days when I need it. Other than that, I usually wear my bare face because a no-makeup day is my way to "recharge" my skin.

On what occasions do you wear makeup at home?

I always put my makeup on when I have to attend professional virtual meetings. Having my face bare on virtual meetings is a big no for me because it gives a sense that I don't look as prepared as I feel internally. I also feel pale on cam without any makeup on.

Is there any adjustment in your beauty routine in times like these?

Confession time: I have no skincare routine before all of this happened but my time at home turns out to be that time where I finally turn to skincare products. I started using face masks once a week and aloe vera gel all over my face right before I go to sleep. Another thing that changed is the amount of makeup products that I use at home. Now I keep my routine at bare minimum, with just few products to achieve fresh-looking face in virtual meetings.

What are the products that you usually wear at home?

Compact Powder is my current fave! Other than that, it's just Brow Definer and Lip Coat. Burnt Cinnamon is that one color that has been my ride-or-die during WFH days and I like how it is bold enough to make a significant result even when seen through a webcam.

Enjoy the [makeup application] process more than we usually do. If we usually do things in a rush to avoid being late before the stay-at-home mandates, including doing makeup, now is the time to go slower. In every step of our makeup, try to look at yourself in the eye through the mirror and just be present at the moment.

#BLPGirls Rashika Mahisa, on wearing makeup for herself

Hi, Rashika! Do you still wear makeup at home, and why?

I do sometimes. Even when we're at home and nobody really sees us, I sometimes still manage to wear makeup just to make myself feel more beautiful and confident. I want to see myself in the mirror and feel good with how I look. It's not that I don't like how I look naturally without makeup, but when I do my makeup I feel like I am more prepared for my day and ready to face it, even though sometimes a day in my life just involves running errands.

On what occasions do you wear makeup at home?

Before my Zoom meetings, on certain days when I am planning to take loads of selfies (there are days like these!) and even on days with no occasion. Sometimes I wear makeup and then go lounging on the bed right after. Nothing is wrong with it, right?

Is there any adjustment in your beauty routine during your time at home? What changed and what stays the same?

There are several adjustments when it comes to my beauty routine during this pandemic. For my at-home makeup, I try to keep it light to let my skin breathe a little. Plus, this is because I don't have to worry about whether or not my makeup will fade. What stays the same is my love towards lipstick! Wearing lip color is a must for me.

What are the makeup products that you wear at home?

I wear blush, highlighter, mascara and of course, lipstick! I know it sounds a little bit extra but this just works for me. On some days, I wear bold colors that I'm usually reluctant to wear for going out. Nobody will see my makeup (other than myself, of course) so I feel like there isn't any better time than this to try new things. I also discovered a newfound fondness towards putting on Lip Glaze on my lids. Glossy lids look good on me!

Be more aware with the formula of your makeup and be more mindful in wearing your makeup, such as choosing products with a long-wearing formula when we have our masks on outside. This is the ultimate trick to get rid of makeup stains on the mask.

#BLPTeam Felicia Tanubrata, on clinging to a good ol' routine

Hi, Felicia! Do you still wear makeup at home, and why?

Yes and no. I don't wear makeup as often as I did before WFH days but I still put some products on sometimes.

On what occasions do you wear makeup at home?

Wearing makeup is like a ritual that I always do before I start working, both when I have virtual meetings scheduled and when I don't. I know that no one will see how my makeup turns out, but I still do it because it is very mood-lifting. It's also like pressing a switch button, a cue for my body that I am entering my working time.

Is there any adjustment in your beauty routine in times like this?

Sure, there is. I am now switching my usual glossy lip products to transfer-proof matte lip products to avoid staining on my mask. On days when I need to go out using a mask, I up my eye makeup game so that I can still look presentable even when there's only half of my face for people to see.

What are the makeup products that you wear at home?

Brow products, sheer flush of blush and lip colors! And Compact Powder!

Do you have any at-home makeup tips for other BLP Girls to try?

I don't have application tips, but I think it's good to cling to some routines that make us feel good, like wearing makeup even at home. Things are unpredictable ahead but if we still do things the old way like we did before, we could have a sense of normalcy that we are currently in need of.

#BLPGirls Peace Jemima, on doing makeup more mindfully

Hi, Jemima! Do you still wear makeup at home, and why?

While at home, I don't really wear makeup every day. I feel more comfortable bare-faced at home and it's always been that way. But I do put on some colors on my face occasionally.

On what occasions do you wear makeup at home?

When I'm bored. Sometimes I get the sudden urge to play around with my makeup, like randomly putting on winged liners. Then I vibe with my favorite songs with those liners on. What's currently on repeat is Normal Girl by SZA. I have listened to that way too many times already.

Is there any adjustment in your beauty routine during your time at home? What changed and what stays the same?

Since I have more free time in my hands, I have readjusted my beauty routine, to a much better one, I could say. What changed in my routine are the products that I use. Now I am paying more attention to what I have been putting on my hair and skin this entire time, ingredient-wise. I use my time to do more research on this matter. One thing stays the same is my beauty approach: I try to keep it as simple as possible.

What are the makeup products that you wear at home?

I wear really minimal makeup like brow products and powder but I make sure I stay consistent in applying my skincare and haircare. I never skip cleanser, serum, moisturizer and sunscreen. For my hair, other than the regular shampoo and conditioner, I also slather on leave-in conditioner and hair mask.

Be creative in doing eye makeup, now is the perfect time to try! When you're at it, always do the eyes before the complexion, so that if we accidentally mess up we can easily fix it with concealer or foundation.
